ABOUT ME

Shivya Nath

Hello! I’m Shivya Nath. In 2011, at age 23, I quit my corporate job with a dream of traveling the globe. For seven years, I lived out of two bags, seeking slow travel, community-centric experiences, and digital nomad adventures.

Some of my most cherished memories include travelling overland from the Persian Gulf via Iran to Armenia, living with a Mayan community in Guatemala, volunteering at a coral reef restoration project in Cuba, living in a nunnery in Ladakh, and shedding my inhibitions and clothes at onsens across Japan.

In 2022, I spent a life-changing month working on a sustainability initiative on the wild and remote Robinson Crusoe Island in Chile. Soon after, I decided it was time to hang up my nomadic boots, and work with the tourism industry on its sustainability journey.

Through this blog, I hope to inspire you to step out of your comfort zone and experience the world – meaningfully and consciously!

I miss the times when… There is something about Thailand that keeps calling me back 🌱 “I had never really harbored dreams of travelling to the Arctic. It sounded fascinating, of course, but also far, remote and fragile. Could I really justify flying all the way – and burning all those emissions – to experience it? If you want to fill your Instagram feed with inspiration and insights on sustainability, climate action, zero waste living and veganism, follow these awesome women: Ever think about how / why we’re all being controlled by an algorithm we have pretty much no control over? I’m feeling a bit disillusioned these days. Japan - one of the world’s most stunning, intriguing, warm and unforgettable places 💚🌸 What’s with the intense heat? 🤯 Travelling alone as a woman is not as questionable now as it was say, 10 years ago. But a lot of perspectives / lists we see online are still dominated by women from the west.

What I’m upto now

I spent 7 nomadic years travelling the world, living with local communities and writing stories at the intersection of travel, the environment and local communities. The pandemic was a time of reflection, and I now seek a lower footprint life close to nature.

I’m currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Sustainability at Harvard’s DCE, and recently founded Climate Conscious Travel – an impact consultancy that works with destinations and businesses to centre climate action in tourism offerings.

I continue to share conscious and meaningful travel stories on Instagram, my monthly newsletter and on this blog.

The Shooting Star Book

A travel memoir that charts my journey from the cubicle to the road. A national bestseller in India, currently in its fourth reprint. Published by Penguin.
