The Singapore Grand Prix!

The Formula One came to Singapore this weekend, made the city glow in the dark, and left everyone awestruck (and deaf) by the sheer speed of the race. Oh, that night race was a spectacle!

Our vantage point was less than five feet from the F1 track! That’s right. The best view we could’ve asked for, without paying a dime! A humble Alonso supporter, I was thrilled, ecstatic, to see him race to victory, after Massa and Kimi crashed. Alonso’s first win of the season, and it had to be the Singapore Grand Prix! Life couldn’t get better!

Force India enjoyed a few laps of fame too, with Adrian Sutil in the third place, until of course, he slipped lower and crashed.

Here’s to my first Formula One race, an unforgettable view of the F1 track, the blinding speed of the F1 cars, and of course, Alonso’s long-awaited victory!

The video: The third last lap of the race, with Alonso in the lead, followed by Rosberg, from our vantage point beyond Marina Mandrin, by a 6 megapixeler.

  1. The race was very different. Being a Kimi fan, I was disappointed he crashed with 4 laps left. The experience was great though, a race under the lights. The track was severely bumpy. Is this a road in Singapore that got converted into a track? Also, it was amazing there wasnt any doors by the fence for the crashed drivers to get off the track. One safety car took about 9 laps. In that Fiasco, Alonso got lucky, but I think he did a very good job to hold on very well till the end and get that well deserved victory after a really long time. I always loved watching Kimi and Alonso fight when they were in Mclaren and Renault. Sad, Massa fell prey to the crew’s fault. Your video shows how fast these cars are, amazing. You must have been thrilled to watch this race on site. Could you get any still pictures of the cars ?

  2. WOW !! Shivya, you just made my hit list … lol… How cool is that ? You got to watch Formula One without paying anything (Cheater !!!). All said and done, its sad that Kimi could not win the race. Do you have pics of the race ?

  3. @ Dinesh Babu: Yeah, the track was a road converted, smack in the middle of the city. It was hard to believe that both the ferrari drivers crashed, but well, there’s always next year. You guys should all make a trip here for next year’s night race. It’s really a “you-have-to-do-it-atleast-once-in-a-lifetime” thing!

@ VC: Haha, yes yes. You have a lot of catching up to do 😉

My poor dear camera didn’t let me take still pics, but here’s a brilliant collection of some, especially for all you Massa fans: http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2008/09/the_singapore_grand_prix.html

  5. @ Neilina, Priti: 😀

@ Nikhil: Haha, I might have an idea 😛 For once, I was thrilled to be living in Singapore!

  6. Somehow I don’t like the idea of Night Racing or am I sad that Kimi lost out?! But ur video is exciting & enjoyed it 😀

  7. @ Rahul : I think you’re sad that Kimi lost out. It was more the bumpiness of the track than it being at night. There’s always next year though. You have to watch it to believe just how spectacular it is! 🙂

  8. Quirky Indian says:

I don’t know what I am happier about – Alonso winning both Singapore and Japan, or Hamilton not being in the points in Japan…

Let’s see how the last two races pan out.

    Cheers,
